Vince was born June 11, 1913 in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, New York. His father, Enrico 'Harry' Lombardi, owned a lucrative butcher shop, making life in the Great Depression easy. His mother was Matilda 'Mattie' Izzo, who's father owned a barbershop.
He was discriminated against for being Italian. Which shaped him to be very against discrimination, even affecting his coaching. |
Religion
Vince Lombardi was a strict Catholic, and went to school to be a priest.

FamilyVince married Marie Plantz and had two children, Vince Jr. and Susan. His grandson Joe Lombardi coached and played football as well.

Vince left his religious schooling to pursue a career in Football, going to Fordham University. He later coached there.
